Tips for AI-friendly product listings

Small changes to your product pages that help both humans and AI assistants.

The same things that make a product page convince a human shopper also make it work better with AI assistants. Here is what to focus on.

Quick wins

  • Use specific, descriptive titles (Lavender soy candle, 200ml, not just Candle)
  • Write a paragraph that names the materials, dimensions, and intended use
  • Add at least three high-quality photos — main shot, detail, and lifestyle
  • Fill in optional fields like color, material, size, weight
  • Group related products in clear collections

Common pitfalls

  • Vague titles that need context to understand
  • Empty descriptions or one-word entries
  • Out-of-stock products left Active when inventory tracking is off, so an AI assistant keeps recommending them
  • Photos that are tiny, blurry, or watermarked
  • Prices that change frequently without clear reasons

Write for a human first

If your product page would convince a friend to buy, it will work for an AI assistant too. AI is trained on real human reviews and writing, so the rules of good storytelling still apply.

Check the AI Commerce setup checklist

The Overview tab on AI Commerce walks you through the prerequisites — published privacy and terms policies, eligible product types, per-product opt-in — so your products actually appear in AI answers. Tidy product copy and photos pair with that to give you the best result.

Frequently asked questions

Will rewriting a product title break my links?

No. Your product URL is its handle, which is separate from the title. As long as you do not change the handle, all existing links to that product keep working.

How many photos is enough?

Three is a solid floor — a main pack shot, a detail close-up, and a lifestyle photo showing the product in use. More is fine if you genuinely have variety to show; padding the gallery with similar angles is not.

Do I need different descriptions for AI?

No. AI assistants read the same product page humans do. Improving it for one improves it for the other. The only AI-specific work is in AI Commerce: setting your eligible product types and policy URLs.
